First Week

Anthony is one week old today! The past week has definitely been an interesting one. We've been trying to get back into a daily routine and it's been crazy to say the least. He's a great baby, so far, and that is definitely helping. He sleeps most of the time and when he's awake he just looks around and is very content. So far, he's also a rockstar at night. He's been going 4 and 5 hour stretches at night which is wonderful! Now, this could all be a fluke and change in an instant, but I'll take it while I can get it that's for sure! The girls have been big helpers. They definitely love their little brother and want to hold him and give him kisses all the time. And Markus is always checking on him, making sure he's okay. He's still pretty excited to finally have a little brother, even if he really can't do anything with him quite yet.

Mike is back at work this week, but plans to take off on Friday so he can go to the doctor with us. I told him he didn't have to, but he wants to go and I think he wants to take advantage of a few days off here and there in order to help me out. He's so thoughtful! :) O, who am I kidding?! He wants another 3 day weekend :)

Anthony's jaundice is much better. He had it when we left the hospital, but it wasn't bad enough to keep him there. We had to go the the doctor the next day for a check-up and more blood work to see if it had gotten worse, but the results came back fine (still there, but not at a level we had to worry about). We were told to watch his color and his poop - yes, his poop... it's good if it's yellow because then he's pooping it out. Anyway, the whites of his eyes are still a bit yellow, but his skin coloring is better and he's been pooping yellow like a champ!

The challenge so far in our daily life is the timing of everything... everything revolves around his feeding schedule which changes on a daily basis. Breast feeding also takes a lot longer than bottle feeding so it's not like we can feed him and in 10 minutes be out the door. It's so much more convenient to bottle feed, but it's much more beneficial to him to breast feed. I'm not a crazy person about it, and I'll probably switch before long, but every little bit is better than nothing! So far, so good!
